Passenger Press Spring News

Yabbadoo, here we are with a big smile to face the big unlucky italian situation and tragedy. I am personally feeling ashamed to talk about comics and our new releases but the life has to go on and we have to work as normally we do. So for Napoli Comicon - April, 24 to 26 - we will present the first two Passenger Cahiers, a mono art comics serie dedicated to illustrations and sketches by authors from all the world.
The first production of a newer, stronger and bigger Passenger Press-art direction by Marco Andreoletti....stay tuned!
We open the dances with Yan Wei from Beijing, simply amazing chinese young artist, and her painted dolls so innocent and so guilty, and it follows Alexis Ziritt, from Venezuela, that lives in Tampa-Florida, and his wrestling warriors, b-movies zombies and post war lands in guacamole sauce.

We'll wait for you at our stand in La Stanza place into Napoli Castle, in the city centre where will be the comics convention.

BilBOlbul 2009....one week later thoughts!

Well well well, after one week I can find time and wish to tell you some considerations about the past week-end experience at BilBOlbul 2009 in Bologna. It went good for me, for Passenger Press.
Many people went to our table, asked about our projects and bought a good number of copies. Very important to print other new books. One time more our audience was above all female, happy for this. Women like The Passenger. And The Passenger loves women.
The organization was good, the staff nice and kind, I wanna thank for all Giordana and Emanuele, in particular Cristina Portolano met before in Angouleme. Also thanx a lot to have found a little space for me to make dedicaces on the left side of Brian Talbot. A gentleman.
Because I was alone- and a big embrace to my friend Lucio for his help and encouragement- I couldn't join conferences and artshows. It was a pity and I hope I could see something on next year. For this reason also I couldn't talk and confront to other independent realities, but I can say that either none of them went close to me to exchange experiences, except few of them.
Therefore for another time I am disappointed by individuality of small groups that it seems they are playing for themselves, and if in my mind there is a big wish to open my reality to others, every time I meet such situations, I am always less interested.
And I laugh if someone comes to me to say unity is force.
I wanna talk about L'ora panda, the "fanzine" of a group of strong women with the table on my left. This publication is interesting and naive. It is the start for something new from the experiences of many different personalities, through sketches, drawns and illustrations mixed with thoughts and poetries. I found very interesting pictures by Martina and dreaming drawns by Francesca. Thanx for you friendly mood toward me and if I can suggest you some things, go on with this project, make it bigger, deep and professional...you are on the right way. And don't forget to make a site or blog to keep alive and update your works.
Fire it up and in the space again! We'll see on the next comic convention in Napoli.

BilBOlbul. Festival internazionale di fumetto

Bologna 4-8 marzo 2009

Dal 4 all’8 marzo Bilbolbul ritorna a Bologna con una terza edizione ricca di proposte, ospiti nazionali e internazionali, collaborazioni. Mostre, incontri con autori, proiezioni, dediche, performances, saranno anche per quest’anno il nucleo centrale del Festival.

Fulcro del Festival gli spazi di Piazza Coperta di Sala Borsa, dove ci sarà anche The Passenger e sarà possibile incontrare gli artisti ospiti e chiedere loro una dedica personale. Le numerose mostre e incontri sono ospitati, come da tradizione, anche in luoghi inediti per il fumetto come musei, gallerie d’arte, librerie, biblioteche.

Dedichiamo a Sergio Toppi e alla sua opera la mostra principale della manifestazione, “Il Segno della Storia”, accompagnata da una giornata di studi (il 5 marzo in Pinacoteca Nazionale – Sala Gnudi) e un libro di saggi pubblicato da Black Velvet.

Altan, Charles Burns e Thomas Ott saranno gli altri protagonisti del Festival: sarà così possibile confrontare l’opera di tre grandi maestri nell’uso del nero in storie ora cupe, ora oniriche, ora grottesche.

Il rapporto tra Fumetto e Storia unisce numerosi appuntamenti.
La mostra di Ángel de la Calle, dedicata alla figura di Tina Modotti e incontri in cui autori di fumetto e storici dialogheranno sul passato dell’Argentina, sul rapporto tra fumetto e avventura con Sergio Bonelli, sul periodo fascista con l’opera di de Santis e Colaone, sulla guerra di Spagna con Vittorio Giardino, sull’attualità dell’Ottocento con Gianfranco Manfredi e Bryan Talbot, sul rapporto con l’autobiografia con Marino Neri e Michele Petrucci, sulle modalità di coniugare storia e narrazione con David B. e Pino Cacucci.

Il panorama contemporaneo è rappresentato dalle mostre della polacca Gosia Machon, dell’autore franco-americano Christopher Hittinger, dell’emergente Marino Neri, del collettivo finlandese Glömp, del quale fa parte anche Hanneriina Moisseinen che avrà una sua esposizione personale, degli autori selezionati dal concorso di Flashfumetto, di Fabio Sera, vincitore del concorso Coop for Words.

“Diverso da me, all’improvviso non sono più io…” è il titolo della mostra del concorso che ha coinvolto oltre 1.000 bambini della scuole elementari di Bologna e Provincia ed è il fulcro della sezione ragazzi di questa edizione.

La rassegna al Cinema Lumière presenta alcune prime visioni in Italia sul fumetto e altre forme espressive legate al disegno. Sullo schermo una biografia di Charles Schulz; due film sul fumetto argentino (“HGO” e “Imaginadores”); le raffinate animazioni del giapponese Naoyuki Tsuji; una proiezione sulla scena della street culture californiana degli anni Novanta (“Beautiful Losers”).

Teatro e musica si legano al mondo del fumetto con due reading al limite fra l’incontro e la performance, protagonisti i fumettisti Gipi e Otto Gabos.
L’mmagine dell’edizione 2009 è ideata dal gruppo di giovani fumettisti Superamici, che si sono liberamente ispirati a Bilbolbul, personaggio creato da Attilio Mussino per il Corriere dei Piccoli. Inoltre all personaggio, di cui si festeggia il centenario, i Superamici consacrano un'originale celebrazione con una mostra in Piazza del Nettuno.
