Tutti gli Uomini del Passeggero Capitolo Uno: Eric Bonhomme - All the Passenger's Men Chapter One: Eric Bonhomme

3) Com'è nata l'idea di "The Hunted"?

Nathan Fox, Jim Mahfood, Mike Huddleston, George Pratt, Jason Shawn Alexander, Ashley Wood, Jenny Saville, Lucian Freud, Phil Hal, i miei amici e molti altri.

This post represents the beginning of a regular appointment designed to show, one by one, all the artists published by "Passenger Press" during the last four years, due to introduce you the variety and quality of their works.
The first artist presented is Eric Bonhomme, talented haitian, but american by school, illustrator who gives us a short interview you can find at the end of this post. Bonhomme, lover of cinema and japanese culture, debuts on "The Passenger 2" (2009), with a set of illustrations dedicated to Akira Kurosawa's works. There he shows a great expressive power and a wise use of inks and contrasts between light and shadows. In 2010 Passenger Press prints his first (and to date last) comic book: "The Hunted". "The Hunted" is a story of samurai, demons and fierce battles told with quick brush strokes and an extremely dinamic line able to splush blood and guts out of paper. The huge panels's dimensions help the reader to dive into the tangle of branches and kinetic lines of Bonhomme's ink forests, imprisoning him in an inescapable cage.

1) Cinema is one of your biggest passions, what are the common elements between the language and imaginative world of cinema and comics?

I would have to say the pacing of the film, the mood, and a good story line are the elements I truly love in films. This is very difficult to achieve in comics since you have to edit so much. But when done properly it is pure magic on paper.

2) Primarily you are an illustrator, what were the main difficulties experienced in writing and drawing comics?

Writing is definitely something i am working on to improve, so this was a challenge for me. It was a process to create an actual database of content for the story, also with the short turn around for the project that really gave me a limited state of mind.

3) How was "The Hunted"'s idea born?

"The Hunted" is a short story from the world I've created along my life's journey. The characters are reflections of interest i have obtained ( demons, spirituality, forests, warriors etc).

4) Why did you choose this huge format?

The format was presented to me and I was all for it, I think seeing it that size gives the art a better allure.

5) After "The Hunted" when will we see you back on comics?

I hope to get back soon, I really do enjoy the process of making a book despite all the hurdles one must face.

6) Which artists have influenced your style the most?

Nathan Fox, Jim Mahfood, Mike Huddleston, George Pratt, Jason Shawn Alexander, Ashley Wood, Jenny Saville, Lucian Freud, Phil Hal, my friends and many others...

7) Your favorite artists in the indie comics scene?

Sam Hiti, Craig Thompson, Jesse Moynihan and a few more I can't remember on at the moment.
